The JB Slideshow3.1 sees this popular module take on significant upgrades to make it a versatile slideshow module that can take on many roles. . We have effectively rewritten the code and cut it in half making it a very slick, lightweight content fading, sliding, scrolling module for Joomla. We've added quite a few features to the slideshow and its flexible layout gives you greater and more intuitive control over placement of images, ticker and navigation elements.

The slideshow is very versatile and can operate as a simple ticker or as a full scale slideshow with images and navigation.

Images

The source for the slideshow content is content items which need to be organised under a single category. This category will be selected in the module parameters.

Images for the slideshow can be loaded in two ways.

The prefferred method is to load it from the content item itself. Here the module will look for the first image it encounters in the Intro Text of the content item and it will use this as the image for that slide.

The second method to load your slideshow images is to specify a directory where the images reside. The images will need to be named after the content items.

Naming your images in the directory.

When you choose to load images from a directory rather from the content itself, JB Slideshow3.1 selects the images to display according to the name of the content item you want it to appear with.

So if the title of the content item is 'Iyengar and Hatha Yoga' the images that it looks for is "IyengarandHathaYoga.jpg" - notice how there are no spaces in the name of the image but the capitalisation is respected (Keeping the capitals as per your titles is important on most server setups).

You can also configure the module to look for image names in lowercase. The type of image it looks for can also be specified (.jpg | .png | .gif)

Ticker Text

In addition to the text in the article, you can now choose to add and link the article title in the slideshow. A word count can be specified to limit the content the module uses and a Read More link can be added and named.

Navigation

Navigation elements for the slideshow can be set to thumbnails, index or none. You can also choose to add and name navigational buttons to move through the slides.

In addition to clicking through the navigation, you can also trigger the slide changes by hovering over thumbnails.

Positioning of the Elements.

The slideshow is made up of three basic elements which include the slideshow image, the text and the navigation. Each of these are optional. The position and the dimensions of these elements are controlled in the module admin by using absolute positioning which means you have ultimate flexibility in creating your own layout for the content, image and navigation buttons.

Other Features

The slideshow also incorporates some great looking and unique animations as a way of making your text and images fade and slide across the screen. The animations available include:

  • Fade
  • Scroll Up
  • Scroll Down
  • Scroll Left
  • Scroll Right
  • Slide horizontally
  • Slide Vertically
  • Turn Up
  • Turn Down
  • Turn Left
  • Turn Right
  • Zoom
  • Fade and Zoom
  • Curtain Horizontally
  • Curtain Vertically
