Features

Built using the Zen Grid Framework

The Joomla Bamboo Zen Grid Template framework is a simple yet powerful tool for creating unique and flexible Joomla templates. The logic for the framework is built upon the 960 Grid CSS framework but we extended it to cope with multiple template widths and flexible module position layouts,  as well as adding a whole swag of extra functionality to make managing your Joomla template easier.

Joomal Template or Quickstart Package

Pixel Eight comes in two distinct packages - a single template or the quickstart package.

The quickstart package is a fully setup Joomla installation that replicates what you see here on the demo. The quickstart is hands down the quickest way to get the template setup on your server with all of the functionality that you see here on the demo site. Please take care to read about the installation process for the quickstart packages on the main Joomla Bamboo site and also read the documentation pointing out the differences between the quickstart package and the Joomla template.

K2 Template - Joomla CCK theme

After the success of the Avanti Template that we released in January and the K2 template that we shipped with it, we would like to introduce the Pixel Eight K2 template. This template is a slick blog template that takes advantage of K2's advanced layout techniques and adds some add flair to get you blogging with Joomla out of the box.

Four Colour variations

Pixel Eight comes with four base colour schemes that can be further enhanced by using the module classes and typographical styles mentioned below. The K2 Template also comes in 4 different colour varieties that determine the ribbon colour used on the created date for the category and item view for the articles.

Built in Accordion

The Pixel Eight template has an inbuilt accordion for module items that is very easy to operate. To get the entire contents of the module to slide - just like our panel menu - all you need to do is add the module class suffix -slide to the module. This will create a traditional accordion whereby the moduel title acts as the accordion trigger to show or hide the contents of the module.

sideColoursIn addition you can also add a colour to the header to mix the colour up a little. Checkout the module classes available below:

  • -slide red
  • -slide green
  • -slide purple
  • -slide brown

Typography - Using the JB Type plugin

The Avanti template is compatible with our  typography plugin called JB Type. JB Type is a plugin that dynamically loads the typographical styles on the page when you need them - this means that it reduces the size of the template and reduces load time but adds another level to the typography present on your website. The JB Type plugin enables you to trigger some beautiful typographical styling using very simple syntax in the traditional Joomla manner. Please check the JB Type page for more information.

Read about the JB Type plugin here.

Module Classes

In addition to the default module styling for the template it's also possible to change the appearance of the modules via adding a module class to the modules that you are using. There is a good range of module classes available. Please view the examples below or check the page highlighting the module positions for examples of the module classes in use.

This last class is designed for recreating the ribbon heading that sits on the side edge of the main template container.

60 Module Positions

The  Pixel Eight Joomla template comes with no less than 60 module positions and is built upon our Zen Grid framework. The Zen Grid framework makes creating different layouts on different pages for your site a snap with an amazing amount of flexibility and control. You can determine the width of the page, select between 12 or 16 column layouts, determine the space between the columns, introduce module dependant widths for the main body module positions and much more. You can view the module position layout here on the Pixel Eight documentation page.

View the module positions and descriptions on the Pixel Eight Documentation page.

Superfish and Panel Menus

The Pixel Eight Joomla template ships with the ability to create the smooth superfish and panel menus that you can see in action on the demo site. The superfish menu can be positioned at the menu or any of the top1 to top4 module positions, while the panel menu is setup to be used in the right column. For a full description of how to set up the menus for the Pixel Eight theme please scroll down to the bottom of the page on the Pixel Eight documentation page.

Read about setting up the superfish and panel menus in the Zen Grid Documentation

JB Panel

The JB Hidden panel is a standard feature thats built into the Zen Grid framework. The panel provides a smart way to make important but not essential information on the page via a jQuery script that helps to hide and display the modules you have published there. The panel becomes active when you publish any module to the panel1, panel2, panel3 or panel4 module positions.

Read more about the JB Hidden Panel in our Zen Grid Documentation respository.

JB Slideshow3 - Front page Slideshow

The JB Slideshow3 module has featured a lot in our templates over the past few years and with good reason. The slideshow is now full compatible with K2 and provides an amazing array of layout potential. You get full control over the the way your slideshow displays and behaves and the end user gets a smart and fast loading Joomla content slideshow.

Lazy Image Load,IE6 Warning and Back to Top Option

One of the driving forces behind our templates is the free JB Library plugin that provides some optional fancy functionality as well as simply enabling the jQuery library on your site. The JB Library plugin features include:

  • Lazy Image Load to speed up page load on pages that have a large number of images.
  • IE6 Warning that warns uses that they are using an outdated browser (Im sure they already know that though)
  • Back to Top functionality that adds a back to top link at the bottom right of the screen that when clicked scrolls the user back up to the top of the viewport.

Read more about JB LIbrary and its features on the JB LIbrary documentation page.

Example Galleries and other extensions

The beauty of Joomla and its open framework is that you can load in the functionality that you want on your site via the use of separately installed modules and extensions. We have a range of extensions that will perfectly well in the Pixel Eight theme, please feel free to browse through their demonstration pages and documentation to find gallery, twitter and content display modules that suit your needs.
